Byway Council

Members from a variety of interests came together in 1999 to form a Council to enhance the promotion, preservation, enjoyment, and stewardship of the Connecticut River Valley. The States of Vermont and New Hampshire gave official recognition to years of planning by designating a bi-state route for the new Connecticut River Byway along New England’s longest river.

The Byway Council’s goal is to raise awareness of the region’s unique historic, cultural, environmental, agricultural, and industrial resources. The Valley is blessed with natural and scenic places to visit and diverse recreational opportunities. We want to share with you the distinctive crafts, foods, and other products for which New Hampshire and Vermont are so famous through our photos, essays, and itineraries.

We invite you to travel with us along New England’s Great River.
